Aussies Abroad: Mabil’s FC Midtjylland keep Danish Superliga title alive

Awer Mabil’s chances of winning the Danish Superliga with FC Midtjylland are still alive after a 2-1 comeback victory over Nordsjælland on Tuesday morning (AEST).

Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu scored a double in 11 second-half minutes to cancel out an early opener from Jonathan Amon, with Caltex Socceroo Mabil making a late cameo from the bench.

Midtjylland – who last Monday lost consecutive Superliga matches for the first time in two years – remain on the tail of leaders FC Copenhagen: but only just.

The gap between the top two is nine points with only four matches of the championship playoff round remaining, meaning Mabil's men must defeat the leaders in their meeting on May 12 and hope Copenhagen drop points elsewhere.

Midtjylland also have a Danish Cup Final meeting with Brondby to look forward to on May 18.
