Aussies Abroad: Four Socceroos score goals over the weekend

Four Socceroos scored for their clubs over the weekend, Milos Degenek’s FK Crvena Zvezda secured their fourth win on the bounce in the Serbian SuperLiga, and Martin Boyle’s Hibernian remain undefeated in the Scottish Premiership.

Milos Degenek’s FK Crvena Zvezda saw off FK Spartak Subotica 3-2 in their top of the table clash in the Serbian SuperLiga on Saturday morning.

Degenek played the full game as his side raced to their fourth consecutive victory.

Heading to the Scottish Premiership and Martin Boyle’s Hibernian endured a 0-0 stalemate against Motherwell on Sunday morning.

The Socceroos winger played the full game for Hibs as they maintained their unbeaten start to the season.

In the Belgian Pro League, Danny Vukovic played a full game between the sticks for Genk as they drew 1-1 at home to Oud-Heverlee on Sunday morning.

A late goal from the visitors unfortunately prevented Vukovic’s side from registering back-to-back wins to start their campaign.

In the Japanese J League, Thomas Deng put in a full shift in the heart of defence for Urawa Red Diamonds as they secured a 1-0 win at home to Sanfrecce Hiroshima on Saturday night.

The Socceroos defender was a rock at the back as his side registered their fourth clean sheet of the campaign.

The three points means that his side move up one spot into 6th on the league table as they held onto register their first victory since late July.

Mitch Langerak’s Nagoya Grampus were on the wrong end of a 1-0 score line against FC Tokyo on Saturday night.

The Socceroos shot stopper put in a man of the match performance between the sticks despite his side going down by the odd goal.

However, the 31-year-old saved a penalty in the dying moments of the encounter to ensure that the score remained 1-0.

In the K League, Adam Taggart got on the scoresheet for Suwon Bluewings as they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to Jeonbuk FC on Saturday night.

Taggart entered the action in the 66th minute and was able to score a consolation goal for his side in the final five minutes of the contest.

Terry Antonis was absent for the Bluewings.

Brandon O’Neill featured in his usual defensive midfield role for Pohang Steelers as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against leaders Ulsan Hyundai on Saturday.

The ex-Sydney FC midfielder played the first half before being substituted with the score locked at 0-0 at the break.

Over to Israel and Nikita Rukavytsya scored the decisive goal for Maccabi Haifa in their 1-0 win against cross-town rivals Hapoel Haifa in the Toto Cup.

The Aussie striker capped off a well worked short corner routine with a header from point blank range in the 51st minute.

Both Brandon Borrello and Awer Mabil were on target for their respective clubs in pre-season friendlies over the weekend.

Borrello fired in a spectacular curling effort for SC Freiburg in their 1-1 draw against Karlsruher SC while Mabil got on the scoresheet for FC Midtjylland in their 3-1 defeat to Reims.
