Aussies Abroad: Boyle bags two assists, Ryan keeps cleansheet in first win of season

Martin Boyle was in the thick of the action for Hibernian as they held league leaders Rangers to a 2-2 draw in the Scottish Premiership while Maty Ryan registered his first cleansheet of the season for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Martin Boyle put in a full shift for Hibernian, producing two assists as his side drew 2-2 with leaders Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday night.

Boyle teed up Drey Wright for a first time finish from six yards out after his cross from the right fell perfectly to the left winger in the 22nd minute.

That was the first time that Rangers had conceded in their eight matches this season.

Hibs went behind after two quick fire goals from the visitors just after the break however they put themselves back on equal terms thanks to Christian Doidge’s header after Boyle’s searching cross picked him out at the far post.

Maty Ryan kept a cleansheet for Brighton & Hove Albion as they won 3-0 away to Newcastle United on Sunday night.

Two goals in the opening 10 minutes sent Brighton on their way before they added a third with just over five minutes remaining in the encounter.

Mathew Leckie played the final nine minutes for Hertha Berlin in their opening day 4-1 win against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

Leckie collected an assist despite being on the pitch for such a short period after his cross from the right edge of the 18-yard area found Jhon Cordoba in space who slotted home Hertha’s fourth of the afternoon in the 90th minute.

Daniel Arzani made his debut for FC Utrecht as they drew 1-1 against VVV-Venlo in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday morning.

Arzani entered the action in the 68th minute and showed plenty of promise down the right wing for his new side.

Ajdin Hrustic played 83 minutes for FC Groningen as they won 1-0 away to ADO Den Haag on Sunday night.

That was his side’s first win of the campaign after they went down 3-1 to PSV Eindhoven in their first match of the season.

In the Belgian Pro League, Danny Vukovic’s Genk won 3-1 at home to KV Mechelen on Monday morning.

That was only their second win of the season as they move up to 8th place on the league table.

Heading to Denmark where Awer Mabil played the final 20 minutes for FC Midtjylland as they won 1-0 at home to Lyngby in the Danish Superligaen on Saturday night.

This was Midtjylland’s first league victory after they stumbled to defeat in their opening round fixture against SonderjyskE.

In J League action, Mitch Langerak put in a full shift between the sticks as his Nagoya Grampus ran out 2-1 winners against Vissel Kobe on Saturday night.

Two Nagoya penalties on either side of the interval were enough to see Langerak’s side claim the three points as they keep hold of 4th spot on the league table.

Thomas Deng started and played 82 minutes for Urawa Red Diamonds as they were soundly beaten 3-0 by table toppers Kawasaki Frontale on Sunday night.

James Jeggo put in a full shift for Aris Thessaloniki as they won 1-0 away to Volos in the Greek Super League on Monday morning.

Jeggo’s side have had a perfect start to their league campaign with two wins from as many matches.

In the English Championship, Massimo Luongo played the full game for Sheffield Wednesday as they drew 0-0 against Watford on Sunday morning.

Heading to League One where Bailey Wright put in a full shift in the heart of defence for Sunderland as they registered a 2-0 win against Oxford United on Sunday morning.

Two second half goals were enough for the Black Cats as they secured their first league victory of the season while Wright and his backline had the added bonus of a cleansheet.

In the 2 Bundesliga, Brandon Borrello started and played 73 minutes for Fortuna Dusseldorf as they fell to a 2-1 defeat away to Hamburg in their season opener on Friday night.

Fortuna ended the match with 10 men after Nana Ampomah was dismissed for his second bookable offence in the dying moments of the encounter.

In the Serbian SuperLiga, Milos Degenek played the full game in the heart of defence for Crvena Zvezda as they cruised past Vozdovac 6-0 on Monday morning.

The Bluewings finish the K League season in 11th position and will have to fight for their place in the Korean top flight as they enter the relegation group.
