Aussies Abroad: Amini closes out win for AGF in Danish Superliga

Mustafa Amini helped AGF shut down a narrow 2-1 win against Horsens to tighten their grip on third place in the Danish Superliga.

A second-half goal from defender Casper Højer Nielsen edged the Whites ahead in the race for a UEFA Europa League qualification place.

AGF striker Patrick Mortensen had given the away side a dream start at CASA Arena with a 14th-minute strike but the 11th-placed side pulled level on 34 minutes through centre-back Malte Kiilerich.

The hosts controlled the larger share of possession but Nielsen’s 55th-minute goal swung the game in favour of the visitors and Amini entered the fray on 61 minutes in place of Benjamin Hvidt.

The Socceroos midfielder helped close out the game to ensure AGF take three points back to Aarhus, and open up a four-point lead on fourth-placed Brøndby with a game in hand.

Meanwhile in the Turkish Süper Lig, Aziz Behich was on the bench as Istanbul Başakşehir claimed a 2-1 win at Rizespor thanks to ex-Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel’s 90th-minute winner.
