Elder stars in FA Cup upset over Man City

Caltex Socceroos hopeful Callum Elder has helped Wigan Athletic to a huge 1-0 upset win over Manchester City in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup on Tuesday.

In a massive boilover, the Aussie defender played the full 90 minutes for the League One outfit and had a huge role in the game’s only goal on 79 minutes.

Elder brought the ball out of defence and played a long through ball into the path of Will Grigg, with the Northern Irish striker showing great composure before slotting past City keeper Claudio Bravo.

And it proved decisive with a 10-man City unable to fashion an equaliser as Wigan booked a spot in the Quarter-Finals.

Earlier, City fullback Fabian Delph was shown a straight red card for a shocking challenge on Max Power on the stroke of half-time.

The upset continues Wigan’s giant-killing run in the FA Cup with the Latics knocking off EPL sides Bournemouth and West Ham in Round 3 and 4 respectively.

Will Grigg netted a brace in the win over the Hammers.

Wigan will now face Southampton in the Quarter-Finals.
