One of the country's emerging goalkeepers, Joe Gauci was rewarded for his brilliant club form with Adelaide United with a maiden, official senior call-up to the national team. The shot-stopper had been called up as a train on almost a year prior to gain valuable appearance ahead of the impending AFC U23 Asian Cup 2022 in Uzbekistan. Indeed, Gauci's game continued to go from strength to strength and he made his Socceroos debut in Australia's second homecoming friendly match against Ecuador at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium, producing a couple crucial saves.
