Sainsbury edges closer to action at Inter Milan

In overnight action, Caltex Socceroo defender Trent Sainsbury was included in Inter Milan’s squad for the first time, while keeper Mitch Langerak’s club moved a step closer to promotion in Germany.

After making a loan move to the Serie A giants earlier this month, Sainsbury was on the bench for Inter’s home game with Empoli.

While the 25-year-old wasn’t used, he saw his side secure a valuable 2-0 win thanks to goals from Italian internationals Eder and Antonio Candreva.

The win sees Inter move back into the top four and right in contention to qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League.

In Germany, Langerak was between the sticks again as Vfb Stuttgart secured another vital win in Bundesliga2.

Stuttgart beat Sandhausen 2-1 to move five points clear at the top and looking good for an immediate return to the top flight in Germany.

Former Red Craig Goodwin played the last 13 minutes for Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie but was unable to impact the result as they lost 2-0 against Ajax in Amsterdam.

Aussie Midfielder Kenneth Dougall watched from the bench for Sparta.

And it Switzerland, Caltex Socceroo striker Tomi Juric was an unused substitute as his Luzern side crushed Young Boys 4-1 to stay in third spot.
