Rogic stars against Man City in UEFA Champions League

Caltex Socceroo Tom Rogic has helped Celtic stun Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in a thrilling 3-3 draw in the UEFA Champions League overnight.

With Rogic pulling the strings in midfield, the Hoops drew 3-3 with the EPL leaders at Celtic Park to get their first point on the board in Group C and end City's 100% winning start to the season.

The home side led on three separate occasions – with Moussa Dembele scoring twice – but were pegged back by City each time.

But Rogic was superb in the first half and set up Celtic’s second goal to left-back Kieran Tierney.

Receiving the ball in space just inside City’s half, the 23-year-old drove at a retreating defence until he got to the edge of the box.

Just when it looked like Rogic would pull the trigger, he played the ball wide to the on-rushing Tierney, whose shot flew in at the near post after a slight deflection off Raheem Sterling.

Rogic wasn’t far away from getting on the scoresheet himself, with a free-kick bending just wide of the post on 15 minutes.

The young Australian was at the heart of all of Celtic’s promising openings before he was substituted just before the hour mark.

The result against Pep Guardiola’s in-form City, who were going for 11 straight wins to start the season, restores some pride for Celtic after their 7-0 loss to Barcelona a fortnight ago.

Rogic’s Celtic takes on Dundee in the Scottish Premiership this weekend before he will link up with the Caltex Socceroos squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Japan starting next week.
