Caltex Socceroo skipper Mile Jedinak’s Aston Villa pushed Spurs all the way in a tense FA Cup clash overnight but his side were undone by two late goals.

Jedinak’s Villa – currently 12th in the Championships - had the tough task at White Hart Lane to take on in-form Tottenham in Round 3 of the FA Cup this morning (AEDT).

And it took two goals inside the last 20 minutes for the EPL side to secure the victory, with defender Ben Davies and Korean star Son Heung-min finding the net.

Jedinak did a superb job limiting the home side’s dominance in the middle of the park, playing 77 minutes for Steve Bruce’s side.

Mixed night for Aussies in FA Cup

While disappointed to be out of the Cup competition, Villa can now switch their focus back to chasing promotion to the EPL, starting with a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers next weekend.

Elsewhere, striker Bradden Inman watched from the bench in Peterborough’s clash with EPL leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

A double from the Blues’ Spanish international Pedro helped the home side to a comfortable 4-1 win in a match where skipper John Terry was sent off midway through the second half.
