The Westfield Matildas have finished in 7th place at the Cyprus Women's Cup after defeating Italy 5-2 in Paralimni overnight.

In a role reversal from the previous matches in the tournament, the Westfield Matildas found themselves 3-0 up in the first half with Sam Kerr opening the scoring the 17th minute and Emily Van Egmond netting a brace.

After the break Katrina Gorry extended the lead in the 56th minute and substitute Hayley Raso completed the Westfield Matildas scoring in the 79th minute.

Italy scored two consolation goals late in the game, but never looked like threatening the Westfield Matildas lead.

Strikers Emily Van Egmond and Michelle Heyman finished the tournament as joint highest scorers for the Matildas each netting three goals, while Katrina Gorry and Sam Kerr banked two apiece and Hayley Raso scored her first goal in the green and gold.

The tournament was claimed by France who defeated reining holders England 2-0 in the final to continue their 40-year domination over the Three Lions.

The Westfield Matildas will now continue their preparation for the AFC Women-s Asian Cup 2014 being staged in Vietnam in May.

Australia are currently ranked No.9 in the world and are the defending title holders. The four semi-finalists at the tournament alongside the fifth-placed team will all qualify for the FIFA Women-s World Cup Canada 2015.
