Japan recall Hasebe, Uchida for Socceroos clash

Javier Aguirre is confident he has the majority of his squad set for Japan's AFC Asian Cup defence after naming his side to face Honduras and Australia over the next fortnight.

The Japanese boss recalled a host of veterans for the November international break including two-time World Cup captain Makato Hasebe and Bundesliga defender Atsuto Uchida.

“I have the base of the squad in mind, but the list is not yet complete,” Aguirre told the Japan Times.

"I do have a team in mind for the Asian Cup. I want to win these two games so we can head to Australia with our confidence high."

Announced as Samurai Blue coach in late July, Aguirre has had little time to put his stamp on a side looking to win a record fifth AFC Asian Cup when the tournament heads to Australia for the first time in January.

“This is the last opportunity to work with players firsthand before the Asian Cup. I’m happy I’ll be working with players I haven’t seen before. To beat these two teams, we will need to perform well against them.”

The Japanese will face Honduras on November 14 in Tokyo before backing up four days later against Australia in Osaka.

Following Japan's famous 1-0 extra-time win over Australia in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup final, the two sides have met three times with the opening two matches finishing 1-1 before their last encounter ended 3-2 in Japan's favour at the 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup.

The Blue Samurai will face Jordan, 2007 AFC Asian Cup winners Iraq and Palestine in the group stage of the 2015 tournament.
