Important Information for Australian Socceroos fans travelling to Thailand

On 13 October 2016 the Thai Government announced the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world's longest-serving head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history. He served for 70 years and 126 days.

This is a time of deep sorrow for the Thai people. A one-year mourning period has been announced by Thai Government officials.

Expected Behaviour

To demonstrate respect for the Thai people, please refrain from any behaviour that may be interpreted as disrespectful or disorderly, and consider wearing darker clothing. Abide by local laws and respect Thai customs.

There may be some disruption of commercial and public services during the mourning period, especially during the first 30 days (until 13 November). This will likely include entertainment and tourist venues.

Please also be aware that prison terms of up to 15 years can be imposed for insulting the monarchy. Take particular care not to cause offence when posting, commenting on or liking items on social media that relate to the mourning period.

Match Day

Previous restrictions placed on match day by the Thailand Cabinet have been lifted meaning that all supporters can dress in a polite manner as you see appropriate, use cheering equipment, show symbols, bring banners inside the stadium, sing cheering songs and appropriately conduct joyful activities both inside the stadium as well as in surrounding areas.

If you wish to bring any banners, flags or musical instruments to the game please email the details to banners@ffa.com.au by 5pm AEDT Saturday 12 November. You will need to include an image of the item as well as the dimensions. A reply email will confirm if the item has been approved as well as instructions on next steps.

Please note, if you do not register and gain approval for these items, they will not be permitted.

FFA Support

FFA has arranged for the Fan Engagement Manager to travel to Bangkok to work with Embassy staff and fans to assist with providing an understanding and appreciation of the situation.

The Fan Engagement Manager will be present on match day distributing black arm bands and ribbons to fans to show a unified demonstration of respect to the Thai people.

The Fan Engagement Manager will also be available at the Premier 8 Conference Room at the Holiday Inn Bangkok (971 Ploenchit Road) from 1.00pm-5.00pm on Monday 14 November to answer any questions that fans may have. The Fan Engagement Manager can also be contacted via email at fanengagement@ffa.com.au.

DFAT and FFA highly recommend that all fans travelling to Bangkok register at www.smartraveller.gov.au and familiarise yourself with the information that is relevant to tourists visiting Thailand.
