Caltex Socceroos move up in FIFA world rankings

Australia has moved up three places to 45 in the world rankings, announced by FIFA today.

After the Confederations Cup in June in Russia, Australia have moved up from 48 to 45, while Germany - who beat the Aussies in Russia 3-2 in the group stage - are now world number one ahead of Brazil in second.

Chile, who drew 1-1 with Australia at the Confeds Cup, moved down to seventh spot from fourth. 

Japan, who face the Caltex Socceroos in a crucial World Cup qualifier on August 31, are down one to 46. 

Thailand, who play Australia on Sept 5 in the final group World Cup qualifier, are down four to 131 in the world.
