Caltex Socceroo's FA Cup win sets up EPL clash

Caltex Socceroo Bailey Wright’s new club Bristol City has progressed to the fourth round of England’s FA Cup.

Wright’s strong start to life at new club Bristol City continued as they beat Fleetwood Town 1-0 in their third round FA Cup replay this morning (Wed).

The 24-year-old defender played the full 90 minutes as City moved onto the next round and a trip to EPL club Burnley, who also came through a replay today.

Burnley, whose young Aussie midfielder Aiden O’Neill came on for the final few minutes, beat Sunderland 2-0 at Turf Moor thanks to goals from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray.

But there was late heartbreak for Ryan Williams’ Barnsley, who conceded in the injury-time of extra-time to lose 2-1 against Blackpool.

Williams came on with 15 minutes left in normal time with scores tied at 1-1 and almost won it for his side in extra-time.

He hit a powerful shot from just outside the box which the keeper managed to parry away to safety.

But just as it looked like the match was headed to penalties, the visitors found a winner through Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Meanwhile, Aziz Behich’s Bursaspor endured a tough night in the Turkish Cup, slumping to a 4-1 defeat against Akhisar.

The Caltex Socceroo left-back watched from the bench for the 90 minutes as Ricardo Vaz Te scored all four goals for Akhisar in their emphatic win.

And Awer Mabil showed he’s about to go into the last part of the season in Denmark in good touch, after a strong showing in Esbjerg’s friendly win over AC Horsens.

Former Adelaide United flyer Awer Mabil is part of a 22-player Australian development squad that is heading to Spain for a training camp from March 20-28.

The ex-Adelaide United flyer scored his side’s opening goal in their 2-1 friendly win.

And Caltex Socceroo striker Tomi Juric continues to work his way back from an injury lay-off, starting in FC Luzern’s friendly with German side Eintracht Braunschweig, which the Swiss club lost 2-0.
