Caltex Socceroo departs J-League club

Caltex Socceroos attacker Nathan Burns is set to part ways with J-League club FC Tokyo, following the conclusion of his contract.

The 29-year-old joined the Japanese outfit from Wellington Phoenix in 2015 and made 26 league appearances for the club, scoring three times.

“I’m very sad to leave this club and the friends I have made. My two years in Tokyo have been an incredibly valuable experience,” Burns told FC Tokyo’s site.

“I’m proud to have worn the No. 16 shirt, and I was fortunate to have such great team-mates and coaching staff."

The 24-cap Socceroo appeared to fall out of favour this season under manager Yoshiyuki Shinoda and failed to make an appearance in the J-League this campaign.

Burns missed selection for Australia’s Confederations Cup campaign and recent clashes with Brazil (friendly) and Saudi Arabia (World Cup Qualifier).
