Aussies abroad: O'Neill makes third EPL appearance

Former Perth Glory midfielder Daniel De Silva led Roda JC to their first win of the season while fellow teenage midfielder Aiden O'Neill earned his third appearance in the Premier League for Burnley.

Roda moved off the bottom of the Eredivisie table with a 1-0 win at Excelsior on Sunday, with De Silva, 19, teeing up David Boysen for the only goal of the game in the 56th minute.

De Silva chased down a long ball into the left-hand channel before passing inside to the onrushing Boysen, who surged into the box before shooting across goal and into the bottom corner.

It was a good day for Australians in the Dutch top tier, with Brad Jones putting in another full shift for Feyenoord, who came from behind to beat NEC Nijmegen 2-1 and retain their five-point lead at the top of the standings.

In the Premier League, O'Neill came on in the 41st minute for the injured Steven Defour and played the rest of the match in Burnley's 3-1 loss at Southampton.

O'Neill, 18, has made three league appearances for Burnley this season, coming off the bench each time.

In the Championship, Aaron Mooy - fresh from his World Cup exertions with the Caltex Socceroos - played 90 minutes as Huddersfield Town lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

In Turkey, Aziz Behich completed a full shift in Bursaspor's 0-0 draw with Osmanlispor, while in the K League, Tomi Mrcela played from start to finish in Jeonnam Dragons' 1-0 victory away to Sangju Sangmu.
