Caltex Socceroo keeper Adam Federici has made his first start of the English Premier League season, Mat Leckie’s side had their first win in the Bundesliga, while Scott McDonald scored in Scotland in a massive night for Aussies Abroad.
An injury to Artur Boruc gave Federici his chance in the starting XI and the 31-year-old was superb as AFC Bournemouth secured a valuable 1-0 away win at Stoke City.
In a flawless display, Federici made five saves for the match as Eddie Howe’s men held on to move up to ninth spot on the EPL table.
Stoke were awarded a penalty just before the break at the Brittania but Federici showed all his experience to try and put pressure on the kicker, and it worked as Bojan’s spot-kick crashed into the crossbar.
Fellow Caltex Socceroo Brad Smith was an unused substitute for the Cherries.
In Germany, Leckie’s FC Ingolstadt finally picked up their first three points of the season – at the 11th attempt - with a 1-0 win at Darmstadt 98, with the Socceroo winger playing 90 minutes.
McDonald won bragging rights over compatriot Ryan Edwards in the Scottish Premier League as Motherwell ran out 2-0 winners over Partick Thistle.
The striker scored Motherwell’s second goal just before half-time with a clinical finish while Edwards, fresh from signing a new deal with Thistle this week, was substituted at the break.
Kenneth Dougall played another full game and Craig Goodwin came on for the last 20 minutes as Sparta slumped to a 3-2 loss in the Eredivisie.

In new manager Ian Holloway’s first game in charge, QPR came away with a crucial 2-1 win over promotion-chasers Norwich City, with the Socceroo midfielder playing more than an hour.
Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield Town have dropped to fourth after losing 3-2 at Cardiff City, while Jackson Irvine’s Burton Albion were crushed 3-0 by Jaap Stam’s Reading.
And Bailey Wright, in his 200th appearance for Preston North End, was excellent as his side kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
James Jeggo’s Sturm Graz were involved in a dramatic top of the table clash in Austria against Rheindorf Altach.
It took a stoppage time goal from defender Fabian Koch to enable Sturm Graz to escape with a 1-1 draw to stay top of the ladder on goal difference, with Jeggo playing 84 minutes.
Finally in Denmark, Mustafa Amini (77 minutes) and Chris Ikonomidis (63 minutes) both saw plenty of action in AGF’s 3-2 loss at Nordsjaelland.
