Aussies abroad: Mooy dazzles in Championship debut

Caltex Socceroo Aaron Mooy was named man of the match in his first start for Huddersfield Town, while plenty of other Aussies also tasted success over the weekend. Here's the wrap of the results from our Aussies abroad.

UK

Socceroo Aaron Mooy made an impressive start to his Huddersfield Town career, helping his new club to a 2-1 win over Brentford on the opening weekend of the Championship overnight.

Mooy was the heartbeat of The Terriers attack in his first competitive start for the club, with goals to fellow debutants Elias Kachunga and Kasey Palmer ensuring they claimed three points at  a packed John Smith's Stadium.

Jason Davidson was not in the squad for the home side, while fellow Aussie Callum Elder played a full match for Brentford.

Defender Bailey Wright was in action for Preston North End as they were beaten 1-0 away to Reading.

James Meredith’s Bradford City were held to a goalless draw against Port Vale in League One.

Ryan Edwards was a second half substitute as Partick Thistle beat Inverness 2-0 on the opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership.

Scott McDonald's Motherwell also banked three points as they accounted for Kilmarnock 2-1 on their travels.

Europe

In Austria, James Jeggo played a full match for SK Sturm Graz as they claimed a 2-0 away win over SV Mattersburg.

Alex Gersbach also played 90 minutes for Rosenborg BK as they beat Lillestrom SK 4-3 in Norway.

Asia

Aurelio Vidmar suffered a defeat in his first game in charge of Bangkok Glass, with his side going down to Bangkok United in their local derby in Thailand.

Former Brisbane Roar defender Matt Smith led the side as two goals in each half saw them go down 4-2.

Club Friendlies

Mile Jedinak got one past Mat Ryan from the penalty spot as Crystal Palace finalised their preparation for the Premier League season with a 3-1 win over Spanish powerhouse Valencia.

Ryan guessed the right way after Connor Wickham had twice found the back of his net but couldn't prevent the Socceroos skipper finding the bottom corner with his precise spot kick.

Adam Federici was in goals for AFC Bournemouth - and kept a cleansheet - as they beat Angers SCO 1-0, with fellow Socceroo Brad Smith sitting out the clash.
