Socceroos Cap Number: 624
Caps: 1
Current Club: St Mirren
Previous clubs: Adelaide United, Maccabi Haifa
After making his name in the A-League, energetic fullback Ryan Strain experienced his first senior stint in Europe – and maiden Socceroos call-up.
He spent time abroad with Aston Villa as a youngster, before returning home to South Australia and working his way through Adelaide United’s academy.
After a couple of years in the NPL, Strain was handed his chance to impress in the A-League: and has not looked back since.
82 appearance for Adelaide United between 2017 and 2021 laid the perfect foundations for a move overseas, which arrived in 2021 as Israeli powerhouses Maccabi Haifa came calling.
September 2021 saw Strain called up to the Socceroos for the first time alongside his former Adelaide United teammate Paul Izzo.
However, injury while in camp delayed his chance of debuting and it was not until a year later until Strain would return to the international fold following strong performances with St Mirren in Scotland. The defender, who has previously enjoyed time in camp with the Young Socceroos and Australia U-23’s, would make his senior debut against New Zealand in Auckland.
