Another Scottish-born Socceroo, towering defender Harry Souttar immediately established himself as a cult hero in Green and Gold. At 1.98 metres, he is the tallest outfield player to have ever represented the Socceroos and used it all to his advantage, heading home six goals in his first five internationals. Having never previously appeared in Australia's capital city, Souttar took no time to announce himself to the Canberra public on debut.

Shots of the 6'6 defender towering over the Nepal players to score on two occasions, became an iconic image for Australian football fans. Souttar continued to endear himself to Socceroos fans through his consistent performances and delivered impressive displays at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, starting all four matches, help keep two clean sheets and will be synonymous with a last-ditch sliding tackle against Tunisia to preserve a famous 1-0 victory. After starring at the tournament, Souttar earned a move to Premier League outfit Leicester City.

Harry and brother John played their junior years climbing through the ranks of Dundee United's development system. Younger brother Harry eventually made his first team debut with Dundee in 2016.

As an 18-year-old, Souttar's Premier League dreams were realised, signing for Stoke City for three seasons. He would then spend time on loan in Scotland and at League One outfit Fleetwood Town, where the defender has impressed for both club and then country.

A return to Stoke City in 2019 proved highly successful, as Souttar established himself as a mainstay in the Championship, and after being tipped for the top by his manager, has his sights firmly set on earning promotion to the Premier League. Souttar also played his part at Tokyo 2020, taking his place in the Olyroos’ backline.

Did you know?

Souttar had never lived or played in Australia before his international debut in October 2019, Graham Arnold however, knew of the Fleetwood Town defender's eligibility through Harry's Australian mother Heather.
