Zdrilic Winner Sinks Celtic Chance Of Unbeaten Sea
Australian striker David Zdrilic ended champions Celtic's hopes of completing the Scottish league season unbeaten when he struck an injury-time goal for Aberdeen in a 2-1 victory at Parkhead on Wednesday.
Zdrilic, whose goal ensured struggling Aberdeen's survival in the premier league, paid tribute to Celtic but revealed that his team had been carefully plotting their downfall.
'They're a great side but we had a game plan here and it worked,' he said. 'We knew we would get chances because they were leaving so many gaps towards the end.'
Aberdeen, who moved above Kilmarnock to stand third from bottom of the table, have 34 points from 33 matches and cannot now be caught by bottom club Partick Thistle.
The Socceroo striker-s goal came deep into injury time after a quick counter attack caught Celtic short and Zdrilic made no mistake for his sixth goal of the season. Swedish striker Henrik Larsson opened the scoring for Celtic on 15 minutes with his 36th goal of the season.
Aberdeen however fought valiantly and former Celtic striker Bryan Prunty capitalised on a mistake by Celtic goalkeeper David Marshall to equalise.
Meanwhile Zdrilic-s Socceroo teammate Tony Popovic has Crystal Palace in the Division One play-off zone after they beat Sunderland 3-0. Palace has snuck ahead of Tim Cahill and Kevin Muscat-s Millwall side on the ladder and with only a handful of games remaining is on the verge of the chance to regain a place in England-s top league.
Popovic played a full game and is a first team regular at Palace.
