Australia clinched their second win in their AFC U-19 Championship 2014 Group F qualifying campaign as they defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 at Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Malaysia, on Saturday.
The Young Socceroos were on fire in the first half jumping to a 2-0 lead, with both goals scored within a minute of each other. The side netted a third two minutes after the interval to run out comfortable 3-0 winners.
Striker Nicholas Olsen opened the scoring on 20 minutes before Christopher Ikonomidis added another just a minute later. The match-s eventual MVP, Ikonomidis, scored his second goal on 47 minutes to seal the emphatic win over Kazuo Kuroda-s side.
The win is the Young Socceroos second after opening their campaign with a bang as they thrashed Hong Kong 7-0 on Thursday. Chinese Taipei bowed down again after losing 6-1 to Vietnam in their opening tie.
Earlier, in the other match of the group, Vietnam beat Hong Kong 5-1 sealing their second win in their campaign and are now level with the Paul Okon-led Australian side on six points, with goal difference pushing the Australians to the top of the table.
Monday will see the decider match between Australia and Vietnam whose winners will qualify for the 16-team October finals next year hosted by Myanmar.
Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong, who are already out of reckoning for the finals, will meet in an academic contest also on Monday.
