On November 19, 2013 a familiar name scored a trademark winner for the Socceroos. The goal came in the 69th minute.

Costa Rica were the opponents at ANZ Stadium as newly appointed Socceroos Coach Ange Postecoglou called the shots for the first time in charge of Australia-s national team.

The Costa Ricans put up some stubborn resistance as the Socceroos made a nervy start under their new boss, but the hosts began to dominate proceedings and it was Cahill, coming on as a second half substitute, who broke the deadlock deservedly for the home side.

As he has done time and again, Cahill-s goal came from a header, albeit on this occasion it required a deflection on its way to finding the back of the net.

Rarely troubled in defence throughout, the goal was enough for the Socceroos- new golden generation under Postecoglou to get off to a winning start.
