Which Qantas Socceroos would you pick to take on Scotland?

Qantas Socceroos coach Holger Osieck will soon announce his squad for the international friendly against Scotland on August 15 and there is a good chance the side will contain plenty of European based stars who may not have featured recently for the national team.

With the game being held in Edinburgh and of no consequence when it comes to World Cup Qualification, Osieck has the luxury of testing some relatively new names out and seeing what they can bring to the table in the national side.

While we can reveal Mark Schwarzer will most likely be the starting keeper, it could be considered a given that Reading based, Australia number two Adam Federici will also be in the squad, leaving the third keeper spot open to the likes of Mitch Langerak, Nathan Coe or even the presently trialling Mat Ryan, who would surely love to impress EPL clubs Tottenham, West Bromwich Albion and Wigan Athletic with a top notch performance for his country.

While the keepers should be a by the book decision for Osieck, there is a strong chance that Brett Holman will make his return to the line-up along with Aston Villa teammate Chris Herd, who is looking to make his Qantas Socceroos debut after a few false starts, with Middlesbrough-s Rhys Williams also likely to be in the mix.

And so too, despite not presently having a club is captain Lucas Neill, who would be earning his 50th cap as Qantas Socceroos Captain (83 in total) if he manages to get selected in the side.

And if Osieck is going to include Neill, then you would have to think that perhaps another man without a club in Harry Kewell has to be a chance, after all Kewell has been vocal in telling the media that he has been training on his own and keeping fit, and to be rather blunt about it, before he left Melbourne Victory, and last time out for Australia the striker was in good form.

While the selection of Kewell is well and truly up in the air, one man who won-t be there is Tim Cahill, having recently moved to New York and the MLS, it is likely his new club won-t be keen to see him leave for a friendly so soon into his stint at the club.

Certainly Osieck can experiment with more European-based players and from the continent it is likely Luke Wilkshire will be there marshalling the troops in the midfield with Holman, while Nikita Rukavytsa should also continue to feature.

In terms of the midfield it could also be time for a recall for James Troisi, who since signing for Juventus has been loaned out to Atalanta for a season and is one player who could a big future, the case is the same for Holland based trio, Tommy Oar, Adam Sarota and Michael Zullo.

Of course, Osieck has plenty of other in-form and experienced options that can be picked for this match including Alex Brosque, Josh Kennedy, Mark Bresciano and Sasa Onenovski among others.
