The Westfield Young Matildas have wrapped up their 3-week tour of Europe and Asia with a hard fought 1-0 win over a Thailand Select on Friday in Bangkok.

Just 24 hours after landing in Bangkok after the long flight from Italy, Angela Fimmano-s second half goal settled the match, played in hot and humid conditions.

Adelaide United-s Fimmano headed the ball home at the near post, meeting an excellent cross from Marianna Tabain, ten minutes into the second half.

Coach Alen Stajcic was absolutely delighted with the girls performance and couldn-t have been happier with how their main preparation for the AFC Women-s U20 Championship has gone.

“Very happy with the team's performance, especially as we had to overcome 20 hours of travel the day prior,” Stajcic said from Bangkok.

“It's a pleasing way to finish off the tour against a good quality Thai team with a mix of senior and youth players.

“This sets us up well for our AFC Championship (and World Cup qualifiers) in 6 weeks time.”

Australia started well with several half chances from free kicks and open play.

It was however the Thais that created the best chance of the first half after 42 minutes, when they hit the top of the crossbar with a header.

With the Thailand Select team making wholesale changes (9 in all) at the break, Australia was basically playing a whole new team for the second half.

But Australia again started well and with Kyah Simon seeing a sliding attempt at goal going straight to the keeper.

Australia-s dominance throughout the game was finally rewarded, when Tabain beat a player on the flank and her cross was met by Fimmano at the near post and her header was too good for the Thai keeper.

Simon went close to making 2-0 five minutes later when her header cannoned off the post.

Australia then made wholesale replacements of its own and continued to dominate the remainder of the game with only desperate Thai defence stopping the score from increasing.
