Westfield Matildas Indigenous duo head north

Westfield Matildas Indigenous ambassadors - Lydia Williams and Kyah Simon, both recently returning to Australia from commitments at the 2011 FIFA Womens World Cup in Germany and 2012 London Olympic Qualifiers held in China, recently travelled to Darwin to take part in the Footprints Indigenous Football Festival staged at the Darwin Football Stadium.

Westfield Matildas Indigenous ambassadors - Lydia Williams and Kyah Simon, both recently returning to Australia from commitments at the 2011 FIFA Womens World Cup in Germany and 2012 London Olympic Qualifiers held in China, recently travelled to Darwin to take part in the Footprints Indigenous Football Festival staged at the Darwin Football Stadium.

Hosted by the Northern Territory Indigenous Sports Unit and Football Federation Northern Territory, Williams and Simon delivered their own football stories combined with drug and alcohol awareness messages to all the festivals participants. Many of the festival players do not currently play football. The Footprints program provides an avenue for Indigenous children to become involved in the ‘World Game-, by providing footballing opportunities and experiences such at the festival.

In their communication with the players, both Williams and Simon highlight the benefits football can provide to Indigenous children. Having both travelled the world playing at International level, Kyah Simon informed the festival participants, football is a game which provides endless opportunities in comparison to other sports, for both men and women.

Williams, current Westfield W-League Canberra United goalkeeper and Simon - Sydney FC striker will battle against each other on Saturday November 5th at Leichardt Oval. The Westfield W-League is scheduled to kick off Saturday October 22nd.
