Vidmar excited by Olyroos on Road to Rio

Olyroos coach Aurelio Vidmar has declared the four-nation tournament in China a success saying the team’s performance was “excellent” as they prepare for qualification to the Rio Olympics in 2016.

The Olyroos defeated Korea Republic 1-0 on Tuesday night in Wuhan and Vidmar said the tournament had been valuable preparation ahead of the qualifying road to Rio 2016.

“It was a very good performance tonight. We dominated possession and created numerous very good chances,” he said after the game.

Perth Glory's Jamie Maclaren, a first half substitute for Sydney FC's Corey Gameiro, with the only goal of the game on 38 minutes.

“The tournament was very worthwhile and allowed the players to understand the style of play we are implementing as we work towards the first stage of qualifying for Rio in March next year," Vidmar added.

Australia ended the tournament with a win, draw and loss. They kicked off with a 2-2 draw against Brazil last Friday night.

This was followed on Sunday night by a 3-1 loss to the host nation.

Olyroos go down to China PR

Vidmar said the Olyroo squad took their chance to impress in China.

And with an Olympics in Brazil as the prize, the players clearly are excited at the prospect of potentially returning to a country that hosted the memorable 2014 FIFA World Cup.

“The players attitude and performance during the camp has been excellent.”

The Olyroos’ starting line up against Korea Republic:

John Hall, Corey Brown, James Donachie, Ryan Edwards, Corey Gameiro, Jackson Irvine, Kwame Yeboah, Steven Urgakovic, Giancarlo Gallifuoco, Connor Pain, Shane D’Cunha.
