Van Egmond targeting New Zealand

Westfield Matilda Emily van Egmond says she wants Australia to make a statement in their upcoming games against New Zealand.

Westfield Matilda Emily van Egmond says she wants Australia to make a statement in their upcoming games against New Zealand.

The Matildas are currently in an intense training camp with head coach Hesterine de Reus, and van Egmond says the new boss is pushing the players to new limits.

“It-s different to what we-ve had in the past; we-re looking to a more possession-based game. We-re still trying to figure out what she wants us to do on the park, it-s a work in progress but the girls are handling it well.

“[Hesterine] has very high demands and it-s a professional environment. We-re training every day like you want to to win a World Cup.”

The Matildas will play two matches against New Zealand in Canberra in June, before embarking on a European Tour with international friendly matches against the Netherlands and world No.5 France, and Van Egmond hopes the team can get off to a good start against their trans-Tasman rivals

“I would like to achieve getting the structure right as Hesterine wants us to. We want to beat new Zealand and make a statement.”
