Tom Glover named July/August Nominee for Hyundai A-League Young Footballer of the Year

Australia U-23's & Melbourne City FC shot-stopper Tom Glover has been named the July/August nominee for the Hyundai A-League Young Footballer of the Year.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper was outstanding for Erick Mombaerts' side after the Hyundai A-League restart.

His form contributed to City achieving a number of club-firsts: a best-ever points tally of 47, a second-place finish after the regular season and a place in the Hyundai A-League Grand Final - the first in the club's history.

Glover gave his side every chance of turning their maiden Grand Final berth into an inaugural Championship, saving eight of his nine shots faced and forcing the contest into half an hour of extra time before the Sky Blues finally made a breakthrough after 100 minutes of play.

Glover's performance kept City in the Grand Final

After the heartache of Grand Final defeat fades and the prospect of a new season arises, however, Glover will return with the hunger to build on what was an impressive end to the campaign, which has resulted in his nomination for the Young Footballer of the Year.

Glover featured five times for City throughout the July/August nomination period, beginning with a clean sheet and a 2-0 win over the Sky Blues on August 1.

A draw against Adelaide United preceded a victory over Western United which sent City into the Finals Series, where Glover began to truly shine.

In a 2-0 Semi-Final win over Mark Rudan's United Glover made a series of key stops which kept United off the scoresheet long enough for City to make them pay down the other end, which set up the Grand Final showdown against the Sky Blues.

Despite falling to the now five-time Champions Sydney Glover can hold his head high for his performance in his first outing on the Hyundai A-League's biggest stage.
