Socceroo Herd suffers another injury blow

Socceroo Chris Herd has suffered another injury blow, stretchered off in Wigan’s 1-0 win over Adam Federici’s Reading on Wednesday morning (AEDT).

Herd, on loan at the Latics from Aston Villa, was forced off early in the second half with a knee problem.

It’s not yet known the severity of the problem, although the club tweeted it could be a serious injury.
Play was stopped for almost 10 minutes as Herd received treatment before Herd was taken off on  a stretcher.

It’s another setback for the 25-year-old, who had to leave the Asian Cup early after suffering an Achilles injury in training before the clash with Oman in Sydney.

It puts into doubt Herd's selection for the Socceroos' friendly against the world champions Germany next month.

Despite the loss of Herd Wigan held on to record a crucial victory in the English Championship.

Federici was superb in goal for the home side, pulling off a string of fine saves to keep his side in the contest right until the end.
