Qantas Socceroo goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has hit back at claims made in several English daily newspapers that Middlesbrough will withdraw their latest offer if he doesn-t accept it.
Schwarzer (pictured right) on his official website - www.markschwarzer.com said he was astounded by these reports and said while he has been offered a new 3-year deal, the only written offer he has received was no where near the reported £30,000-a-week Middlesbrough is reported to have offered him.
The Australian, who has been linked with moves to Manchester United and Arsenal in recent times, was annoyed that his contract discussions were being leaked to the media.
The media reports yesterday suggest Middlesbrough will not be held to ransom by Schwarzer and that their offer would make him one of the top-six paid Premiership goalkeepers.
Schwarzer is free to talk to other clubs as his contract expires at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer, although Middlesbrough may decide to try and cash in and sell him during the January transfer window, if he does not accept the deal soon.
