Football Federation Australia (FFA) and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) today announced that the Qantas Socceroos will meet the Wales National Football Team in an international friendly match at Cardiff City Stadium, Leckwith, Cardiff on Wednesday 10 August 2011 (kick-off 7:45pm local time).

This will be the first official match between Wales and Australia at senior men-s international level.
Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck is looking forward to this final friendly match before starting the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
“Our recent matches in Australia against New Zealand and Serbia were very important in regard to team building and expanding our squad and I have some very good impressions of the players from those matches.
“The upcoming match against Wales will be our final opportunity to prepare before we begin our FIFA World Cup qualification campaign.
“The majority of players will be at the end of their pre-season or at the start of their respective league season so it will be very important for me to see at what stage they are at when we play Wales in Cardiff.
“The draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian qualification will be made at the end of July and from there we can focus on preparing for our opponents,” concluded Osieck.
Wales are currently ranked 114th (as of 29 June 2011) in the FIFA World Rankings and are involved in the qualification stage of the UEFA Euro 2012 in Group F.
The Qantas Socceroos draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign will be made in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday 30 July 2011 (Sunday 31 July AEST).
