The Australian Under 17 team, the Qantas Joeys, have been defeated 4-1 by Brazil in the final of their two matches in the Nike International Friendlies tournament in Lancaster County, Los Angeles (USA).

The Qantas Joeys were competitive against their tough opponents with the goal for Australia resulting from a free kick played into the box by Marc Warren and sent on by Brendan Hamill, before finally deflecting off a Brazilian defender for an own goal in the 43rd minute of play.

That goal got Australia back into the match after going two goals down to classy Brazilian side inside the opening 20 minutes of the match.

However seven minutes after the break, Brazil regained their two-goal advantage and with a little over 20 minutes remaining scored a fourth and final goal.

Australia had periods of domination and were able to match their opponents for much of the game, but the Brazilians proved clinical in front of goal.
