The Australian Paralympic Team have finished in 11th place at the Cerebral Palsy World Cup in Brazil, after defeating Canada earlier this morning.

Played in wet and slippery conditions, a dominant second half by Australia is where the game was won, with scores locked 0-0 at the half time break.

Australia was under early pressure from the start, but got into the game with some good attacks through Brett Fairhall down the flank.

Chris Restell had several opportunities to put Australia in front, but was unable to convert.

The introduction of David Cantoni seemed to settle Australia down and they controlled possession and didn-t give it away like they have in previous games.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 38th minute, when Brett Cross scored with a good finish and the goals flowed fairly regularly from then on.

Chris Pyne added a second in the 43rd and David Cantoni added a double, before captain David Barber made it 5-0 right on full time.

"Finally we have learnt to dictate the tempo of the play and this went to our advantage in the second half leading to a number of goals," said Paul Brown.

“While disappointed not to get to the last eight, which would have qualified us for Beijing, a number of players new the international scene will have learned a lot from this experience and with more international games, this team can only improve.”
