Football Federation Australia is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Scott Gilligan as Futsal National Men's Coach and Gui Costa as Futsal National Women's Coach.
Football Federation Australia is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Scott Gilligan as Futsal National Men's Coach and Gui Costa as Futsal National Women's Coach. Both appointments are until 2008 though subject to annual review. Gilligan's appointment includes the period up to and including the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Championship.
Sydney-sider Gilligan has been Futsal National Men's Coach since 2002 and had a lengthy playing career including as an Australian representative. Gilligan oversaw the team's qualification and participation in last year's FIFA Futsal World Championship in Chinese Taipei.
Costa of Brisbane lead the Women's Futsal team to victory at last year's Cheetah Cup held in Belgium. The team won the prestigious 12-team invitational tournament which featured a variety of European teams.
"The FFA are delighted to be able to confirm these two re-appointments given the calibre of the individuals involved," said FFA Head of High Performance John Boultbee.
"Australia is also likely to have more regular and intense international competition in the coming years through the likely opportunity of participating in the Asian Football Confederation Futsal Championship. The tournament would also allow for the team to have a clear annual focus as opposed to simply attempting to qualify for the FIFA Futsal World Championship every four years."
