Socceroos striker Scott McDonald is fast becoming a fans favourite at Celtic after scoring another dramatic late winner in a 2-1 win over Gretna in the Scottish Premier League (SPL).

McDonald-s rich vein of scoring form continued on Sunday, following his late winner in the Champions League win over AC Milan midweek, this time lashing home from 12 yards out, as bottom placed Gretna conceded two goals in the last four minutes. The win lifted Celtic back to the top of the SPL.

It wasn-t a great weekend though for our boys in the English Premier League, with only Brett Emerton tasting victory, as Blackburn Rovers won 2-1 against Birmingham City. Emerton played a full game.

Mark Viduka was absent in Newcastle United-s 3-2 win over Everton, who are still minus Tim Cahill; Mark Schwarzer, despite making several impressive saves, couldn-t stop the onslaught from Manchester City, who won 3-1; while on Saturday, Josip Skoko had one long effort saved, before Wigan Athletic finally surrendered against Manchester United, who won 4-0 and West Ham, with Lucas Neill playing a full game, losing 1-0 away at Aston Villa.

Another to get on the scoresheet over the weekend was Socceroos defender Patrick Kisnorbo, although it won-t be one of his more memorable goals of his career.

Kisnorbo was on the end of some good fortune, when Sheffield Wednesday-s keeper Lee Grant went to punch the ball away from a corner, the ball hitting Kisnorbo and rebounding over the goal line.

David Carney was given his first start at Sheffield United, playing a full game in a 2-0 loss at Bristol City, while Richard Garcia played a full game as Hull City had a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

In Italy, both Vince Grella and Mark Bresciano were involved in dramatic finishes in their respective games. Grella played a full game, as Torino scored late to win 1-0 over Sampdoria, while Palermo came back from a man-down and conceding an 88th minute lead to Reggina, to draw 1-1, with a late equaliser.

Jason Culina played a full game in PSV Eindhoven's 3-0 home win against Willem II, although it wasn-t the best weekend for Luke Wilkshire, who was replaced in the 68th minute and then could only watch as three minutes Roda JC scored the only goal of the game.

In Turkey, Mile Sterjovski was again a feature for Genclerbirligi OFTAS, playing a full game in a 1-1 away draw with Bursaspor; Nick Carle played a full game for Genclerbirligi in a 1-0 loss away at Besiktas; while Michael Petkovic played a full game as Sivasspor drew 2-2 away at Ankaragucu.

In Germany, it was a dismal day for the Australian contingent at Nurmeberg, as they lost 3-0 away at Bayern Munich. Michael Beauchamp and Matt Spiranovic played full games, while Josh Kennedy came off the bench at half time.
