Joeys Head Coach Tony Vidmar has named his 23-player squad for the upcoming AFC U-16 Championship Qualifiers - Group G which will be held in Hong Kong from 21-29 September, 2013.
The majority of the members of the Joey squad that recently competed at the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U16 Aya Bank Championship 2013, which was held in Myanmar, have been included along with the addition of Charlie Devereux, Zakariah Waters, James Delianov, Jake Brimmer and Tommy Stokes.
Vidmar is looking forward to officially starting the qualification campaign towards the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2015
“It's the first part of the qualifiers where we must finished first to progress to the next stage of qualification.
“We don't know too much about the opposition but having just come back from Myanmar the games will be difficult and against teams who just want to defend and play counter attacking football.
“All 23 players will be key in this tournament as we have four games in seven days so every player will be important.
“Our focus has been having effective ball possession and appreciating having the ball and making good use of it. Especially if teams drop off and defend deep this will be crucial in our performance,” concluded Vidmar.
The top team in each qualifying group plus the five best second place teams progress to the AFC U-16 Championship which will serve as the qualification tournament for the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2015 which will be held in Chile.
