Australian Paralympic Football captain David Barber delivered the Athlete Oath at the Opening Ceremony of the 2009 Arafura Games in Darwin last night.

The 29-year-old Queenslander said he was absolutely delighted to be given the honour by Games organisers.

Almost 3000 athletes from 49 countries will compete at the Arafura Games incorporating the Oceania Paralympic Championships over the next nine days.

“To be invited to take the Athletes- Oath on behalf of such a huge number of athletes from around the world is a tremendous honour,” Barber said.

“It was a huge surprise when I was asked, and I feel extremely privileged.”
