Former England international and Newcastle Jets striker Emile Heskey paid tribute to Harry Kewell's exceptional career and says he was the perfect ambassador for Australian football.
Kewell announced on Wednesday he was calling time on his career, which included 56 caps for the Socceroos and stints at clubs like Leeds United, Liverpool and Galatasaray.
Heskey played with Kewell at Liverpool for two seasons and paid tribute to the Melbourne Heart midfielder's career.
"He's been exceptional, the trophies that he won and what he did in the game," Heskey said.
"He was a great ambassador for Australians abroad. As you saw with the way he's played and the amount of trophies he's won, he's done excellent."
"He was (EPL) Young Player of the Year the season before and that's one of the reasons I joined (Leeds) from West Ham," Ferdinand told Fox Sports.
"He was probably the star of the side at the time. He's a good lad, a nice, humble young man and went on to play for a number of big clubs as well and won a few big titles.
"He had a fantastic career, did well, played for some fantastic clubs and I'm sure he'll look back on his career with a big smile on his face and content with what he's done."
