Futsalroos Head Coach Steve Knight has selected a 14-player squad that will travel to New Zealand later this week to contest the ASB Trans Tasman Series (Wellington, 19-21 July) and OFC Futsal Championship Invitational (Auckland, 23-27 July).
Knight is looking forward to testing his team in competition mode after an 8-month break following last year-s FIFA Futsal World Cup in Thailand.
“These upcoming matches signify the start of our preparations for the AFC Futsal Championship Qualifiers which will be held later this year,” said Knight .
“ With 60-70% of the squad inexperienced at this level of competition, it will be a good to test to see who are capable of performing on the international stage.
“Our goals for the two tournaments are to get as much quality game time into the players as possible and to get results in the process," concluded Knight.
The second edition of the ASB Trans Tasman series will see the Futslaroos play three matches against the Futsal Whites (New Zealand Men-s National Futsal Team) over three days. The Futsalroos will be looking to defend the title that they claimed last year when they defeated the Futsal Whites in a clean sweep of last year-s series.
Two days later the Futsalroos will participate at the 2013 OFC Futsal Championship Invitational which will take place at The Trusts Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, from July 23 - 27.
The Futsalroos will line-up against five OFC member associations - New Caledonia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Tahiti and Vanuatu - as well as fellow Asian Football Confederation representative Malaysia.
