FFA TV Rewind | My Socceroo Story: Tommy Oar

From kicking the ball around in the backyard with his two older brothers and sister he’s made it all the way to the Dutch Eredivisie and now Brazil. However former coach Mike Mulvey is not surprised by the 22-year-old’s rapid development.

“He was always destined to be someone who could achieve what he wanted to achieve because he had this limitless enthusiasm and boundless energy,” said Mulvey speaking to FFA TV.

While most would consider Oar to have the most majestic left foot in the country, he actually started out playing right-footed before heeding some advice from Dad.

“It’s quite funny really,” recounts Oar. “When I was born I was actually a right-footer but my father told me I should train with the left foot.

“When I was four or five I took it too seriously and only trained with my left foot.”

Australia is certainly glad he did.
