Caltex Socceroos soar in latest FIFA Rankings

The Caltex Socceroos' impressive form has been rewarded with Ange Postecoglou's side surging to number 45 in the latest FIFA Rankings released for September.

Australia have jumped 12 spots after sitting in 57th spot last month, with back-to-back wins in World Cup Qualifying the catalyst for the rise. 

It is the Socceroos' highest ranking since 2012 when the side was ranked 36 in the World.

The Aussies beat Iraq 2-0 in Perth two weeks ago and followed that up a few days later with a courageous 1-0 win over UAE in energy-sapping conditions in Abu Dhabi.

Australia’s next opponents in FIFA World Cup qualifying for Russia 2018 next month are Saudi Arabia (52nd) and Japan (56). Iran are the top ranked nation in Asia (37th). 

Argentina remain the World's top ranked side, followed by Belgium and Germany.
