Qantas Socceroo Tim Cahill-s belated English Premier League (EPL) debut arrived overnight, when the combatant midfielder fronted for Merseyside club Everton in their 0-0 draw with league giants Manchester United at Old Trafford. Thankfully for Toffee-s coach David Moyes, Cahill was in fine form, starting the match before making way in the 70th minute for Gary Naysmith, having collected a yellow card early in the second half. The former Millwall man was on hand to test United ‘keeper Tim Howard in the first half of a match that pushed Everton to seventh place in the EPL after four matches. Despite confronting some of the EPL-s most notorious midfielders, including Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronaldo, Cahill adapted to the pace of the EPL seamlessly, working effectively beside Republic of Ireland midfielders Lee Carsley and Kevin Kilbane. “I thought he did really well,” said coach Moyes of Cahill-s performance after the match. “He got a touch of cramp, so I took him off.” Following the Socceroos training camp in Fulham, Cahill will next be in action for his new club on September 11, when Everton travel to the City of Manchester Stadium to face tenth placed Manchester City.
