Cahill's match-winner came off a cross by Thierry Henry and gave New York its second straight win and third in its past four matches.
Cahill's second goal came in much the same style as his first when Henry also provided the assist for the Australian in the 39th minute of the game, New York's two former EPL stars firing on all cylinders as they put Toronto to the sword.
Cahill's winner came after Jonathan Osorio scored the tying goal for Toronto in the 83rd minute.
