Tuesday night could be a thriller if attack-minded Jordan coach Harry Redknapp takes the game to the Caltex Socceroos - something Ange Postecoglou hopes will happen.
The Socceroos coach fresh from Thursday night's 7-0 rolling of Tajikistan in Adelaide, said he’d relish Jordan opening up against the Aussies on Tuesday night at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
“I hope they do [come out and try to play]. But regardless, once teams get an idea of how we play, they’re going to be very brave if they want to come out at us,” he told Fox Sports.
“If they do it’ll suit us but I’m expecting them to sit back and hopefully get us on the break.
“And again it’ll be good practice for us to make sure it doesn’t happen.”
That's exactly what happened five months ago in Amman, when Australia's sole holding midfielder was swamped by the canny Jordanians and roared on by an electric crowd, they racked up a famous 2-0 win over the Green and Gold.
Overnight, Jordan (16 points) defeated the group’s whipping boys Bangladesh 8-0 overnight in Amman, setting up a sizzling final group game showdown with Australia on 18 points.
And on Tuesday, Jordan coach Harry Redknapp will be relying on classy striker Hamza Al-Dardour from the Al-Kuwait SC club to break open the game.
Postecoglou conceded Australia didn’t play well with and without the ball in that loss five months ago, a game in which 24-year-old Jordanian talisman ran amok.
“We were nowhere near the standard we wanted to be," conceded Postecoglou.
“And I said at the time we put some guys out there [against Jordan] who hadn’t played in that sort of atmosphere before and they learnt a hell of a lot.
“And the test will come on Tuesday how much they’ve learnt.
“But having said that, we’re at home now. And I don’t care who we’re up against at home and I don’t care who they’ve got up front.
“I expect us to dominate the game and win it.”
