The Australian Cerebral Palsy team has won its opening group game of the FESPIC Games at the Bank Simpanan Nasional Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur, with a 10-0 thumping of Korea Republic.

Captain David Barber led the way with four goals in the romp, with Ben Roche and Chris Pyne each grabbing a double, while Beau Menzies and Brett Cross grab a goal each. They led 7-0 at half time and added a further three goals in the second stanza.

Australia only led 2-0 after 20 minutes with goals from Roche (7 minutes) and Barber from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.

But a five goal burst in the final ten minutes of the half (30 minute halves) showed Australia prowess over the Koreans.

Barber added goals in the 20th and 29th minutes, Menzies in the 21st and Pyne with goals in the 26th and 30th minutes.

Barber added a fourth goal in the 47th minutes, Roche scored his second in the 53rd minute, while substitute Brett Cross made his mark with a 59th minute goal.

Coach Paul Brown was obviously delighted with the performance in their first game and sets them up for a big tournament.

"That one was for the Under 20-s, because Korea denied them a chance for the next Youth World Cup recently," he said after the game.

"I was very impressed with passing channels and our speed of play was far above the opposition.

"The players didn-t panic even though Korea were putting numerous bodies in front of the ball and I thought we were very disciplined with our shape and our recovery.

"Our goal scoring opportunities increased when players started making runs to take the defenders away." he added.
