As the countdown to the World Cup Brazil 2014 continues, FIFA has announced over 280,000 tickets were sold for the tournament in the space of 24 hours.

As the countdown to the World Cup Brazil 2014 continues, FIFA has announced over 280,000 tickets were sold for the tournament in the space of 24 hours.

To be exact, 284,597 tickets were snapped up in the space of a day of the second period of the second sales phase opening through FIFA-s website www.FIFA.com.

Of the allocation, Australia had the fourth highest number of requests of any country behind host nation Brazil, the USA and Columbia, with 5,793 people from the land down under taking up on the window.

Fans can see the respective availability per match by visiting www.FIFA.com/tickets. This sales period is scheduled to last until 01 April 2014.

The Socceroos open their World Cup campaign against Chile on June 13 in Cuiaba.

For everyone not heading to the World Cup, the last chance to cheer the Socceroos on before they head to Brazil is when they face South Africa in a farewell game on May 26 in Sydney.
