Aussies Abroad Wrap: Mooy scores, Irvine and Duke assist, Ryan man of the match

In another jam-packed weekend of Aussies Abroad action, Aaron Mooy continued his outstanding form with another goal as Celtic advanced in the Scottish Cup, while Jackson Irvine and Mitch Duke assisted and Maty Ryan continued his impressive form in the Netherlands.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy played 77 minutes and opened the scoring for Celtic in a 3-0 win over Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Cup quarter-final on Saturday.

Mooy made a perfectly timed run into the box with just over 100 seconds of the match played, latching on to a cutback from Jota and steering the ball home expertly with a first-time, left-foot finish.

He has now been involved in eight goals in his past seven games for Celtic, with three goals and five assists.

Fellow Socceroo Kye Rowles also played a full game for Hearts while Cam Devlin came on in the 65th minute, Nathaniel Atkinson came on in the 73rd minute and Garang Kuol was thrust into the action in the 81st minute - but they could not impact the outcome of the match. 

In the Eredivisie, Maty Ryan was in action on Sunday as he helped his AZ Alkmaar team keep a clean sheet and beat Groningen 1-0.

Ryan also picked up the man of the match award for his impressive performance. 

In Germany,  Jackson Irvine played another full game and picked up an assist as St Pauli beat SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2-1 on Sunday in the 2. Bundesliga. 

Irvine has been in fantastic form of late with two goals in his last four matches but this was his first assist of the season as St Pauli extended their winning run to seven games in a row. 

Connor Metcalfe also started and played 86 minutes. 

In England, Harry Souttar played another full game for Leicester City in a 3-1 loss to Chelsea on Sunday. 

Leicester are 16th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone. 

In the Championship, Riley McGree started and came off in the 93rd minute as Middlesbrough recorded back-to-back victories to get their promotion charge back on track with a 3-1 win over Swansea City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

McGree had enjoyed terrific form against Welsh sides in his previous visits to the country but he could not add to his statistics in the fixture this time around. 

Kenny Dougall started and played 68 minutes for Blackpool FC in a 2-0 loss to Bristol City on Saturday. Blackpool are 22nd in the Championship, six points away from safety. 

Callum Elder also played another full game for Hull City in a 1-1 draw with Coventry on Sunday. 

Tom Rogic also made his return for West Brom on Sunday by coming off the bench in the 87th minute in a 1-0 win over  Huddersfield.

In League One, Massimo Luongo played a full game for for Ipswich Town FC in a 2-0 win over Bolton on Sunday. 

In Czechia, Awer Mabil was an unused substitute for AC Sparta Prague in a 3-0 win over FC Baník Ostrava on Sunday. 

In France's Ligue 1, Denis Genreau was also named amongst the substitutes as Toulouse defeated Angers 2-0 away from home. 

In Serie B, Fran Karacic was an unused substitute for Brescia Calcio in a 1-1 draw with Venezia on Sunday.

Jason Davidson started and played 55 minutes for  KAS Eupen in a 4-4 draw with fellow relegation battlers Oostende in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday. Eupen are three points above the drop zone. 

In the Norwegian Cup, Nick D'Agostino started alongside Gianni Stensness for FK Viking as they defeated Rosenborg 2-0 on Monday morning (AEDT). Subway Olyroo Patrick Yazbek also was named in the starting side, playing 71 minutes on debut following his move from Sydney FC. 

In the Japanese J1 League, Thomas Deng played a full game for Albirex Niigata in a 1-0 win over Kawasaki as they continued their unbeaten start to the season and climbed to third in the league. 

Elsewhere in the  J1 League, Mitch Langerak also stared for Nagoya Grampus and kept another clean sheet in a 3-0 win against Kashiwa Reysol on Sunday.

Mitch Duke played another 90 minutes for Machida Zelvia and assisted a goal in the J2 League in a 3-0 win over Mito HollyHock on Sunday. Machida are undefeated and top of the table after four matches. 

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge started and kept a clean sheet as Incheon United overcame Jeju 1-0 on Sunday.

In the Iranian Pro League, Ruon Tongyik was in the Sanat Mes Kerman side that drew 1-1 with Havadar on Sunday at 10:30pm (AEDT).

In the MLS, Milos Degenek played another full game for Columbus Crew in 1-1 draw with Toronto on Sunday. 

Elsewhere in the US, Alex Gersbach started and played 82 minutes for Colorado Rapids in a 1-0 loss to San Jose on Sunday.

Olyroos and Subway Young Socceroos

In the English Championship, goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic was on the bench as Huddersfield lost 1-0 against West Brom on Sunday. 

In League One, Caleb Watts was an unused substitute for Morecambe in a 3-1 loss against Shrewsbury on Sunday.

John Iredale featured again in Germany's 3. Liga, coming off the bench as SV Wehen Wiesbaden suffered a 2-0 defeat to 1. FC Saarbrücken on Sunday.

  • In Italy's Serie A, Cristian Volpato came off the bench in the 78th minute as for AS Roma were defeated 4-3 at home to Sassuolo.  
  • In Serie B, Alessandro Circati was an unused substitute for Parma in a 0-0 draw with FC Südtirol on Sunday.
  • In Greece, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos came off the bench for PAS Giannina as they lost 3-0 to Aris Thessalonki. 
  • In the  Danish 1st Division, Cyrus Dehmie came on in the 79th minute for Næstved in a 2-0 loss to Hillerød Fodbold on Saturday.
  • In the English Championship, Dean Bouzanis was on the bench for Reading in a 1-0 loss to Millwall on Sunday. 
  • In League One, Cameron Burgess played a full game and scored a goal for Ipswich Town FC in a 2-0 win over Bolton on Sunday. 
  • Elsewhere in League One, goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer was in net for Charlton Athletic in a 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley on Sunday.  Maynard-Brewer also recently signed a new long term deal with the club.

  • In the K1 League, Lachlan Jackson played a full game for Suwon Samsung Bluewings in a 2-1 loss to Suwon FC on Saturday.
  • Over to the United States, where Panos Armenakas started and played 66 minutes for Loudoun United FC in a 3-1 win over Memphis 901 FC in the USL Championship on Sunday.
