Aussies Abroad: Ryan stars again!

With the World Cup fast approaching most Aussies abroad had their final club matches before Brazil kicks off. And Socceroo shot-stopper Mat Ryan kept another clean sheet in Belgium.

Europe

Mat Ryan signed off on his first season in Belgium with a clean sheet in a 2-0 win for Club Brugge at home to Zulte-Waregem.

Juan Carlos Garrido's side could only finish third in the championship play-offs though and were forced to settle for a UEFA Europa League berth as Anderlecht claimed the title and Standard Liege took second spot.

The newly crowned Belgian keeper of the year had this message for the fans.

In worrying news for the Socceroos, Mitch Langerak was not involved for Borussia Dortmund as they lost the DFB Pokal final 2-0 to Bayern Munich.

A knee injury is expected to sideline the goalkeeper for two weeks, according to coach Jurgen Klopp.

He did however cut a dashing figure at the club's end of season party.

Carl Valeri came on for the final two minutes of Ternana's 2-1 loss at Trapani in Serie B.

Dario Vidosic played 90 minutes and supplied an assist for FC Sion in their 3-1 win at home to Grasshoppers. Oliver Bozanic came with seven minutes to go as his Luzern saw off Thun 3-0 at home to claim fourth spot and give themselves a chance of featuring in the Europa League next season.

Both men are now set to link up with the Socceroos camp ahead of next week's friendly against South Africa.

Asia

Another member of Australia's provisional World Cup squad, striker Josh Kennedy, did not play for Nagoya Grampus in the J-League due to a thigh problem.

Jonas Salley completed 90 minutes for Guizhou Renhe as they defeated Guangzhou R&F 2-1 at home.

Adam Hughes played a full game and picked up a booking for Harbin Yiteng as they drew 3-3 at home to Shanghai Shenhua.

Daniel McBreen was also involved in a 3-3 draw, completing 90 minutes for Shanghai SIPG as they earned an entertaining point away to Shandong Luneng. The veteran forward also had one eye on events at Celtic Park this weekend.
