Aussies Abroad Preview: Could we see Garang Kuol and Maty Ryan make their debuts?

Fresh from signing deals with their new clubs, Garang Kuol and Maty Ryan could be in line to feature for the first time while a number of Aussies meet in Scotland for the second week in a row.

Starting in Scotland, where Garang Kuol could be in line to feature alongside Cameron Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson when Heart of Midlothian host Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain's St. Mirren on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT).

The two teams met a week ago when St Mirren's impressive home form continued with a 1-1 draw as they made it 10 league games unbeaten, while Hearts are still setting the pace in the race for a European spot.

Kuol sealed a loan move to Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian from Newcastle United for the remainder of the 2022/23 season on Friday.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Aaron Mooy's Celtic host Kilmarnock for the second week in a row on Sunday at 4:30am (AEDT).

While Celtic ran away 2-0 winners in their last meeting, a Scottish League Cup Final is on the line as the two teams meet in the semi-finals of the competition. 

Aziz Behich could also feature for Dundee United against Hibernian on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) while Ryan McGowan's St Johnstone face Livingston on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).


In England, Harry Souttar could feature in Stoke City's Championship match against Sheffield United on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).  

Riley McGree could also be in action when Middlesbrough host Millwall on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). The Boro are fifth in the Championship after going unbeaten in their last three matches. 

Bailey Wright could also be in line for another start when Sunderland host Swansea City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Elsewhere in England, Tom Rogic could be in action when West Brom take on Luton Town on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Callum Elder's Hull City also face Huddersfield on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the Championship while Kenny Dougall could also be in action for Blackpool against Watford on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In League One, Massimo Luongo could be in line to make his Ipswich Town FC debut against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Europe

In the Netherlands, Mat Ryan could make his Eredivisie debut when AZ Alkmaar travel to Heerenveen on Sunday at 4:45am (AEDT). 

The 30-year-old joined the club this week after ending a six-month spell with Danish Superliga champions FC Copenhagen, in search of more playing time and will compete for the number one spot alongside incumbent gloveman Hobie Verhulst.

Over to Italy's Serie A, where Ajdin Hrustic could feature in Hellas Verona's trip to the San Siro when they face Inter Milan on Sunday at 6:45am (AEDT).

After going two games unbeaten, Hellas will be looking to continue their run of form and close the gap on Spezia to jump out of the relegation zone. 

In Serie B, Fran Karacic could be in action when Brescia Calcio return to action with a trip to Südtirol on Monday at 12am (AEDT). 

In the Belgian First Division A, James Jeggo and Jason Davidson's KAS Eupen face STVV on Sunday at 4:15am (AEDT). Eupen are 13th in the league while STVV sit in eighth position in a Europa League play-off position. 

In France Lique 1, Denis Genreau's Toulouse face Brest on Monday at 1am (AEDT). 

In Lique 2, Alex Gersbach could feature when Grenoble Foot 38 face Guingamp on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT). Gersbach played 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with PAU on Wednesday. 

Awer Mabil featured for the first time and registered a slick assist as AC Sparta Prague took on VfB Stuttgart in a friendly on Friday.

Joel King could also feature in Odense Bk's friendly match against Næstved Boldklub on Saturday at 11pm (AEDT) as they prepare for the resumption of the Danish Superliga on February 19. 

Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe could also be in friendly action when St Pauli face Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday at 12am (AEDT) as they prepare for their 2. Bundesliga tie with Nurnberg on January 29. 

James Holland's FK Austria Wien also face Admirra II on Saturday at 3:30am (AEDT) in friendly action as they prepare for the Austrian Bundesliga to resume on February 13.

Asia & The Middle East

Over to Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury could feature in Al-Wakrah SC's Qatar Stars League match against Al Rayyan on Wednesday at 12:25am (AEDT). Sainsbury also played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Al Arabi on Thursday.


In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya's Maccabi Haifa will be in action against Hapoel Jerusalem on Monday at 5:15am (AEDT).

United Kingdom

In transfer news, Tyrese Francois has returned to Fulham following the conclusion of his loan at HNK Gorica, where he made 12 appearances and scored one goal. 

In the English Championship, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic could feature on the bench when Huddersfield take on Hull City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In League One, Caleb Watts could feature for Morecambe against Cambridge United on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In League two, Lachlan Brook's Crewe Alexandra take on Mansfield Town on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Brook recently extended his loan spell with Crewe until the end of the season. The 21-year-old Brentford B winger arrived on a six-month loan deal in July, and has made 21 appearances for the club.

In injury news, Bolton Wanderers' Jack Iredale has been ruled out indefinitely after suffering a tear of his lateral meniscus. The Olyroo has taken to social media to send a message to supporters about the injury and what comes next.

In Premier League 2, Cameron Peupion's Brighton & Hove Albion U21 face Manchester City U21 on Sunday at 1am (AEDT).  Peupion scored his second goal of the season in Brighton's 4-2 loss to Crystal Palace U21 on Monday.

Elsewhere in Premier League 2, Matt Dench could feature when Charlton Athletic U21 face Queens Park Rangers U21 on Wednesday at 6am (AEDT). 

Europe

In the Netherlands, Josh Rawlins could return to action with Jong FC Utrecht on Tuesday at 6am (AEDT) when they host Dordrecht in the Eerste Divisie. 

Dylan Ryan could also be in action in the Eerste Divisie when FC Den Bosch travel to FC Eindhoven on Tuesday at 6am (AEDT). Ryan was an unused substitute in a 2-0 loss against Ajax in the KNVB Cup tie on Thursday.

In Germany's 3. Liga, John Iredale could feature when SV Wehen Wiesbaden face SV Elversberg on Sunday at 12am (AEDT). 

Elsewhere in Germany, Alou Kuol could feature in VfB Stuttgart II friendly against Villingen on Sunday at 12am (AEDT) as they prepare for the resumption of the Regionalliga on March 4.

  • In Italy's Serie A, Cristian Volpato could feature for AS Roma when they host Fiorentina on Monday at 6:45am (AEDT). Volpato was an unused substitute as Roma beat Genoa 1-0 in the Coppa Italia on Friday.
  • In Serie B, Alessandro Circati could be in action when Parma face Bari on Sunday at 12am (AEDT). Circati came off the bench in the 105th minute in Wednesday's 2-1 Coppa Italia loss to Inter Milan. 
  • In Greece, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos could feature when PAS Giannina take on Panathinaikos on Monday at 5:30am (AEDT) in the Super League. 
  • In France's National 2, Mohamed Toure and Yaya Dukuly could feature for Stade Reims II when they face St Quentin O on Sunday at 4am (AEDT). 

United Kingdom

  • In the Championship, Dean Bouzanis could feature when Reading face Queens Park Rangers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).
